Thirteen to Sixteen Years Old

Three-year courses leading to A-levels and university are available for students whose language level is upper-intermediate or above (IELTS 5.5+).

Four-year courses leading to A-levels and university are more suitable for students with a language level intermediate and below (IELTS 5 or less).

Seventeen Years Old

Students who are seventeen can go directly to a two-year A-level course if they have a good upper-intermediate level of English (IELTS 6).

Junior Foundation Course

This course is available to students age thirteen to seventeen who have a pre-intermediate level of English or better (IELTS 4+). Minimum booking is six weeks during term time.

A-levels

A-Level is the perfect route to university for intelligent and hard-working students. The structure of the courses includes modular exams, coursework and final examinations. A-Level is always a two-year course, giving students time to develop their skills and understanding.

The first year of A-Level is known as AS (Advanced Subsidiary) Level. The second year of A-Level is known as A2. Points are awarded for both AS and A2. The advantages of A-Levels go far beyond the certification of students for university..

A-Level students learn their subject in depth: they learn the skills of research and critical thinking; they learn how to use libraries. Students who take A-Levels become familiar with British education before they go to university. Newbury Hall alumni often say that when they arrive at University, much of the first year's work is already familiar to them from their studies at Newbury Hall.

GCSE

Our GCSE subjects have been selected to offer a firm basis for a range of A-levels.

This is the course for students who, for any reason, did not complete High School in their own country. In England this is the exam students take aged sixteen. GCSE is a course which trains the mind, develops the memory, and allows the student to explore a range of skills and subjects..

GCSEs are taught with a mixture of classwork, coursework and field trips. Although GCSEs normally take two years, in Newbury Hall we have a fast stream one year course for students, who are of a level to be able to benefit from this. This is made possible by our use of micro classes and our personal tuition system.

Language support, study skills, IGCSE, English as a Second Language and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) provide a solid foundation for our GCSE students. Our students normally study four or five GCSE subjects, all taught through the medium of English. English Language lessons and subject lessons are integrated into an effective study programme.

Junior Foundation Course

Our Junior Foundation Course is for students aged thirteen and over.

This course can lead onto the GCSE course, or in certain cases can be a preparation for A-levels, where the student's academic and language level is appropriate.

TThe Junior Foundation Course does not lead to external examinations in the first year. The purpose of this programme is to develop the student's language skills and study skills in a range of subjects and to introduce them to the requirements of the British educational system.
